Buena Vista High School’s ASB Cultivates Leadership, Responsibility, and Community

ASB members at Buena Vista take on critical tasks, including budgeting, maintaining balance sheets, and managing inventory for the Eagle Store. Beyond overseeing the school store, they play a pivotal role in planning and executing school spirit events, ensuring seamless communication with staff and teachers to bring their ideas to life.

Adding to this culture of leadership and empowerment is the Student Advisory Committee, which consists of two representatives from each advisory classroom. These student leaders serve as a voice for their peers, working collaboratively to enhance the school experience. ASB member Daisy, who represents Buena Vista at PUSD Board of Education meetings, highlights the unity and structure within the committee:

“All the Advisory members work together. It’s a democracy in the way we collaborate to create events and activities. People are here for a reason.”

Through their leadership roles, students gain valuable experience in public speaking, organization, and teamwork. ASB member Isis reflects on the program’s impact:

“Participation in ASB has helped me grow in public speaking and leadership.”

Buena Vista’s small campus fosters a close-knit, supportive environment where teachers build strong connections with students. Destiny, another ASB member, appreciates this unique atmosphere:

“I get along with all my teachers. The small classes mean students get more attention. Teachers see students in their struggles and reach out to support us.”

At its core, Buena Vista High School is a community of hope, safety, and encouragement—one that empowers students to believe in their future. As one student put it:

“Buena Vista gives students hope in their future and the opportunity to graduate from high school.”

Through ASB and the Student Advisory Committee, students are not just preparing for the future; they are actively shaping their school and their own paths to success.
